The functions for Extended Planning Support (EPU) are based on a data model in which all the elements relevant to safety-related are clearly assigned to the track topology.

ProTop provides functions to prepare track sets of different types in order to create a valid topology. The topology is generated exclusively in ProTop. The topology is stored in ProTop in the form of an XML file, which is imported into ProSig at the beginning of the Planning Project.

If changes to the track set are necessary in the process of the project, these changes are made in ProTop (based on the original track set), a new topology is created and imported into the planning project using XML export or import at the specified construction status.

In order to create the topology, a much higher requirement is placed on the accuracy of the track set than was the case in earlier ProSig versions:

Track elements adjacent to each other are not allowed to have any gaps or overlaps.

At the facing end of a point, all track elements are broken.

Exactly three track elements meet at the facing end of a points.

A valid topology is a requirement for the application of the EPU-Functions. ProTop offers the possibility to create a valid topology from different starting points and save it as XML. Every planning project begins with the import of a valid Topology XML.
